Indian Overseas Air Lines Ltd – Star Line
The contract for operating the Night Air Mail service was given to Star Line whereby aeroplanes carrying airmail from Bombay, Calcutta, Delhi and Madras would leave at night and converge at Nagpur where mail was sorted and exchanged so that the aircraft could return to their points of origin with mail addressed to the respective cities before dawn.
This was the brainchild of Mr. R. A. Kidwai, the Union Minister for Communications.
