The Art of Raja Ravi Varma
The Art of Raja Ravi Varma
A very exclusive and cherished gift item produced by Air India from time to time was portfolios of painting reproductions. Most portfolios were sets of reproductions of artworks from the Air India Art Collection. Sometimes Museums were approached for featuring their artworks in the gift portfolios. This portfolio features a selection of 6 outstanding works by 19th Century artist Raja Ravi Varma, researched and sourced from the Maharaja Fatehsingh Museum Baroda and Jayachamarajendra Art Gallery Mysore, and reproduced with their permission. Raja Ravi Varma, an aristocrat, was closely associated with the Royal families of Baroda and Mysore and these Museums have good collections of his work. He specially focussed on subjects from Indian mythology and religion, and this set produced in the early 1970s features 6 such subjects.
